Player-Dependent Video Quality

$

Howdy,

For some odd reason, it seems that for a new AVI file
to played correctly - meaning with full color and original looks,
then when recording it with CS v2.7 I must make sure that :

1.) I record using the "Active Window" option - as the "Region" option,
for example, wouldn't allow quality output.

2.) I use the "Codec v1.5" (that came with CS v2.7).

3.) If I want to play the resulting video independently, then VLC v2.0,
for example, would play it black & white, tilted, and as if it
has been moved to the side - while Windows Media Player that
is part of Windows 7 plays it just fine, with color and all.

Does that make sense at all?
Isn't an AVI file supposed to be (correctly) playable in any
and all players that support AVI format?

Puzzled,

Johny

Off-Speaker Sound Recording

$

Howdy,

Truth to be told, I haven't read ALL of the
posts on the subject just yet, but from what
I've gathered so far (both in here and on the
Internet in general) it seems that, on a
Windows 7 laptop (where I've installed
my CS v2.7), the "Record Speakers" option
seems to require the user to modify the O.S.
sound-card configuration so that the "What I hear"
or similar setting is to be made active / available.

Unfortunately - I do NOT seem to have such
a setting (or anything similar) whatsoever,
even though I DO have a sound card (as
I can play MP3 music files, for example).

So when I want to record music or sound
that is playing through the speakers,
it seems that the "lesser attractive" option
might be - to an extent - to use the other
menu command available - which is -
"record off microphone" - even though
the whole point is to AVOID the need for
a microphone altogether - yet the "Recorder"
project DOES seem to be able to pick up the
playing sound, when recording a video - only
with much less quality - as the playback sounds
like what might be heard as of some sort of a
low-powered radio transmission...

Any ideas on how to improve sound quality?

Thanks
Johny

Hello. I am Blind and have made a group of AVIS. I would like to combine them into a single AVI with Virtual Dub. I activated the Direct Stream copy in both the Audio and Video options. I opened my first file then attempted to append the second file as a segment and got the following error message.

VirtualDub Error
Cannot append segment "C:\Users\prhunt1\Documents\Paul\Adaptivegraphic 475 Technology Trainer Certification training\Graduate
Workshops\Graduate Workshop Assignments\Outlook 2010 Rules

Presentation\avi files\file020.avi": The video streams are of different
sizes (268x36 vs. 352x40)
OK

How can I configure Cam Studio so that the video stream sizes always mmatch?

Thanks so much.

I upgraded from Camstudio 2.0 to 2.7 , Installation worked well, help-videos for settings are great, thanks a lot. Win7 64bit. Now I found a minor defect. Under Options, Cursor settings, I tryed setting the little box: Enable virtual Click Feedback, that should change the color around the cursor e.g. to green when left click or to blue when right click ist done. I have the cursor in red circle and nothing changes when I right or left click. May be a function ist missing in my Installation?
Settings in video opptions are:
Key frame rate: 200, millisec. 50, playback rate 20
Thanks for checking the minor problem. The new program ist excellent I enjoi it a lot.

[FIX] 'Record Audio from Speakers' not working.

Windows 7 32-bit

My AMD quad-core machine has a VIA Technologies Inc. high definition audio controller built into the ASUS motherboard.

I was able to go online and download the latest drivers for the audio controller, which fixed the problem.

The new drivers include the 'Stereo Mix' feature needed for recording audio directly from the speakers on your machine.

You can find out whether your system has this feature by clicking 'Start', 'Control Panel', 'Sound', and the 'Recording Tab'.

There should be an option for 'Stereo Mix', and it should be checked if you want to record audio directly from the speakers.

[FIX] CamStudio says it's recording, but it doesn't actually start recording.

Windows 7 32-bit

I've found through trial and error that CamStudio is picky about the chosen file directory for saving a video in progress.

This setting, which is saved in the hidden configuration file, is set by clicking 'Options', 'Program Options', 'Directory for Recording', 'Use User Specified Directory', where you would then choose a directory on your machine for saving the video after recording.

If I choose a file directory that is buried in folders somewhere in 'My Documents', the software doesn't record.

If I choose a simple directory for saving, like the 'My Videos Library', the software records with no problems.

Strange file behavior

I've just started using CamStudio to create a video learning module. I've saved the file to the CamStudio installation folder. I can see the file along with some test files I created when I open the file in the Player but I cannot see the files in the folder using Windows explorer. I even did a search for the files and none were found. I don't understand this behavior. Why can't I see the file in Windows explorer but it shows up in the Player file open window?

2.7 r316 Highlighted Cursor vary Transparency

I would like the option to set the transparency of the highlighted cursor.

Right now the transparency is random, sometimes its opaque, other times its just right and yet other times its too transparent. I think there might be a bug in this area of code, since I was getting inconsistent results when trying to set these, finally resorted to directly editing the cfg file.

Either hardcode it at say 40% or whatever looks right, or have a slider to set it since the colour picker doesn't have an option to set alpha channel.

I found a workaround which is to directly edit CamStudio.cfg (located in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\CamStudio.cfg) and set the section cursor to something like the following which works good for the screen recordings I'm trying to do. It gives a nice semi-transparent yellowish circle around the mouse.

Cursor :
{
RecordCursor = true;
CursorType = 0;
CursorSel = 0;
Highlight = true;
HighlightSize = 64;
HighlightShape = 0;
HighlightColor = -1593835648;
RingThreshold = 1000;
RingSize = 20;
RingWidth = 1.5;
HighlightClick = true;
ClickColorLeft = -1593901056;
ClickColorMiddle = -1610547456;
ClickColorRight = -1610612481;
CursorDir = "";
};

Saving as .WMV?

Hello,
Is it possible to save as .wmv? I installed ffdshow-tryouts and was still unable to save as a compressed WMV file format which is needed for storage. If not would it be possible to implement this feature? It would be very helpful!

FSCapture currently records as .wmv by default.

Thanks

Hey I am a new user to Cam Studio and have being trying to get it to work better for many monthes but with little success!
I have read and watch many videos on You tube however most of the videos are not disscriptev!
The main problem I have is, Cam studio videos are blury and text is not clear.
I’m trying to use H 264 or X264 Codex on Windows 7 64Bit.
I have changed the screen resolution of my video card to 1024 X 720 16 Bit!
I’m doing this in full screen recording!
You may find some of the videos I have made on my YouTube channel,

This is the only one made using Cam Studio, the other ones are made using a USB video hardware caption device!
You Tube recommended settings, https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en&ref_topic=2888648
Can some one recommend the proper settings for me to use for better videos to upload to YouTube!

hi, Currently I am using the Xivd codec because of its smallest file size and high quality but some region settings (such as window or fixed) will not work and I will get this error:

the specified device handle invalid. stop()

and then it will ask for the default compressor but when I hit yes it will give me the error again. does anyone have some help on making it work? any help will do.

Well, I've kinda' created my first Camstudio video.

It only seemed to capture part of what I was doing with the cursor.

I'm wondering if anyone can detect what might have gone wrong?

I'm not sure how to upload the video here?

Thank you.

Camstudio freezes frequently when recording art on tablet

$

I've been trying to record art tutorials and for some reason, I start the recording and switch to Photoshop to do some tablet drawing, but it freezes at random points. To be specific, the pen stops working though the recording and everything else works fine. So I guess it would be more accurate to say the pen is the only thing that freezes. But if I stop the video, the pen works again perfectly. There appears to be no pattern as to when the pen stops, but it's usually within the first few seconds if at all. I usually have to try over and over until it finally decides to work the whole way through.

Has anyone else run into this kind of issue before?

Camstudio version is 2.7 r316
Photoshop is CS 5.5
Tablet is Bamboo Pen

Files being written to 'ghost' directory, and not one specifed!

Hi folks, bare with me, may be confusing. I wrote about this several years ago, and then actually found the fix, now forgotten.

I had to change some path settings recently, and left the naming scheme to yy/mm/dd. However, the path settings for my files are not where they are to be written now (c:\camstudio). I have searched relentlessly, even via DOS, to track down these files, numerous sub-dirs, dates, hidden files, etc.., temp files, etc.. Any ideas? I just can't remember the solution previously. No temp sub-directories are holding these...ugh..nothing I can find, though I do know they MUST be there. Everyone's o/s, directory structure, PC, etc.. is different, but I do remember someone seeing the directory being written to while the files were being compressed.

Terry, do you have any old correspondence from about 2 years ago still, under name Morgandy, where I posted the fix I found?

Note, I quickly changed my default directory back to c:\camstudio, and am again naming the files when they are written.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Need help with recording LPs

I want to start doing my own let's play channel over at youtube but I have a few problems with Camstudio, firstly it's version 2.6B (Camstudio 2.6B) that I got a couple years ago. Main issue is after 10-15 minutes upon saving/stopping the recording Camstudio would crash/not save because there was a error with the sound clip so it canceled out, other issue it tends to lag and audio at a point would either go ahead or behind the video.

Atm the only 2 video options I use which are CamStudio Lossless Codex v1.5 with the sittings as follows.

"Quality is at 100% and Set Key Frames are at 200, Capture Frames are at 5 with Playback Rate at 200 and Auto Adjust is unchecked"

and another is the Xvid MPEG-4 Codec with the same exact settings only it won't work/record unless I set the Set Key Frames to 50 even the default player/recorder pop up won't work as it keeps repopping up. Atm I wanna start LPing a few Gameboy games VIA my PC which is Windows XP, also when I was testing a bit the online game lagged and the audio was messed up while it was recording so had to cancel and mess around a bit.

If anyone could help me out in getting Camstudios to record games OK I'll be grateful. Again wanna do LPs of video games/Roms so if anyone could help me get the right Codec/sittings that would be great, altho I can't pay for anything tho.

Blank video file

I just started using Camstudio, went through the tutorial videos, etc. and was able to come up with a video of good quality and small file size. I can view it on my computer perfectly by double clicking the file, but when I try to open it on another computer I only get a blank page!! I have video options to Microsoft video 1, audio 44.1 kHz, mono 16 bit. I have played around with the settings but I still cannot see the file on another computer.
HELP!!
